Driving: When in Rome….

Posted on 17th March 2012 by

When in Rome, do as the Romans do! But of course, driving like a true Italian might be difficult if you’re not used to the roads! Many people will suggest that you don’t hire a car when you’re in Rome. Not only is it difficult to navigate in a completely brand new place, but the traffic is incredibly busy.

If you are comfortable doing so, however, then there are plenty of companies that will allow you to rent a car.  You should be aware that in Rome, there are 7 different traffic zones that are controlled depending on the day and the particular time of day. In the centre of the city, only Roman citizens are allowed to use their cars. Parking spaces are pretty limited, too. So you need to be very well read on driving in Rome if you really do want to hire a car during your trip.

Unless you’re absolutely adamant about hiring a car, it’s pretty much a better idea to just use public transport and save yourself the hassle.
