
The East Village contains some of the great shops in New York. The area was once the center of New York's counterculture scene. The birthplace of both the Beatnik and punk rock scene, this neighborhood saw it's heyday for edgy artistic types in the late fifties through to the mid seventies.
Today, the East Village still maintains much of the artistic character that made it famous, as well as several wonderful shops, boutiques, and designer stores.
