You will be impressed by the standard of public transport in Stockholm: not only is it comfortable and safe, but it is also incredibly efficient.
The easiest way to get round town is by using the underground. You can purchase tickets from a number of different places, such as SL Centres, newsagents’ kiosks, platform barriers and even via SMS. It isn’t possible to pay cash for your tickets when you are onboard a bus in Stockholm, but the majority of bus stops have ticket machines that accept both coins and cards.
Stockholm is divided into three zones, and if you buy a zone ticket, it will be valid for several trips within the hour. If you think that you will be making a few trips, it is possible to buy a prepaid card; these are available for one, three or seven days and allow you to travel in all three zones within that period.
Alternatively, you could buy a Stockholm Card, which can be valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours, and as well as travel, will also give you free entry to 80 attractions and museums.
